Let me tell you a story; a story of wondrous tales of old, of young damsels and charming heros, enchanted plains and castles, magic and -
Well, not quite actually. ^_^ All I really want to say here is, just how I came to stumble across that lovely couple we all adore and what exactly made me into a fan of them. I guess it all started back in the year 1999 for me; it was around that time that we got the internet (what an exciting thing that was back then!), and it was around that time as well that I got hooked on manga. I started watching Sailor Moon when I was nine years old or so (somtime in the 90's), and adored the series from the very beginning. But it wasn't until said 1999, that I got to watch the Stars series, as back then SenshiTv still existed. For all of you who never got to know that site, let me tell you, I was horribly sad when that website went down, as it offered every single Sailor Moon episode to download in Realplayer format. Yeah, those good old days, ... *_* And so I got to watch the Stars season; and I absolutely loved it to bits and pieces. I had started losing interest during SuperS, and had pretty much given up on Sailor Moon a year earlier, but those wonderful Stars episodes made my old Sailor Moon fandom return with a boom, making me into a hot-blooded Moonie once more. ^_^ And it wasn't only because those episodes were funny and hugely entertaining while at the same time it showed the seperate character's "real" and serious sides; it was of course also because I fell in love with Seiya and his not-meant-to-be relationship with Usagi. Unrequited love may be horribly sad and even frustrating, but it also has a very, very addicting side to it.
I also just loved the fact, that the Three Lights brought some spice back to the series. The interaction between the Inners and them was just wonderful to watch; for, come to think of it, weren't the Three Lights the only new characters throughout the whole Sailor Moon series that were around the same age as the original senshi (who are after all the main characters of both the anime and manga)? The Outer's appearance in Super and Chibi-Usa's main role in SuperS both had their own appeal; the Outer's are just coooool (admit it!) and suave, while Chibi-Usa ... Well, let's just say that SuperS was very pink and sugary and a biiit more childish than the other seasons. So, my point; yes, the Three Lights are the first youths (that are also major chracters) the Inners interact with throughout a whole season, making their interaction by far more easy-going and carefree than with other characters. I absolutely love every single scene these interactions have to offer, honestly! ^_^ There's everything from downright hilarious to very serious and thoughtful, from showing to never give up on your dreams to absolutely goofy.
And of course Seiya brought a very special spark along to the series as well; for, all of a sudden Mamoru's just gone, and there's a new man on the scene. Seeing Usagi and Mamoru reunited happily ever after wasn't so obvious more; there was someone new and interesting there, someone who knew nothing about the mysteries that lay about the girl called Tsukino Usagi, and still came to like her, and in the end even care for her deeply. I have to admit, I never really gave much thought to Usagi's and Mamoru's relationship before seeing Stars; they just were a couple, and they looked like they were meant to be and that was it. But seeing Seiya fall in love with Usagi made my mind start to work. I started to notice that Usagi and Mamoru's relationship wasn't that great in my eyes after all; they weren't exciting or funny or endearing or anything much really. Instead there now was this young boy developing a crush on that blonde girl because of really liking her, and the little interaction between them in those first few episodes when the Three Lights appear was already more interesting and addicting than Usagi and Mamoru's had ever been.
I liked everything about Seiya and Usagi right from the start; their funny scenes, their ambitions, their serious talks. ^_^ And Seiya being ten times handsomer than Mamoru (when he isn't even a 100% man, come to think og it) wasn't bad either. So, I could go on forever, and I probably will sooner or later, but I think that's enough for now, isn't it? Seiya and Usagi rock my Sailor Moon world, that's what I want you to know! XD
