In defence of ...

Seiya Kou and Usagi Tsukino

I hate Seiya! He has no right over Usagi! Usagi and Mamoru were meant to be together for all eternity!

Does the above sound familiar to my fellow Seiya and Usagi fans? Most likely. For, whatever Sailor Moon website you might want to visit, you'll always find comments like that thrown at you. And you know what? I'm sick and tired of it!

I don't want to be accused of Seiya and Usagi's relationship not being meant to be - because I know that already. I don't want to be accused of not knowing the "real" Sailor Moon storyline - because I am very much aware of it. And I really don't want to have my opinion being accused of being the wrong one.

Dear Usagi and Mamoru fans, what have we ever done to make you hate us so? Well, yes, the S & U community obviously prefers to not favour that very pairing, but so what? It's your opinion that Usagi and Mamoru are perfect for one another, and it's our opinion that this is not the case. I'm always astounded at how low conversations on forums, etc. can go when it comes to this topic. We live in the 21st century, that's right; our civilisation is supposed to offer freedom of thought and opinions to everyone. But don't expect to notice any of that in said discussions, for Seiya and Usagi fans are pounced on the moment they somehow let their fandom slip and proceedingly accused, animadverted and insulted. So I ask again, what have we ever done to you, Usagi and Mamoru fans?

There are hundreds of the strangest couples abound on the internet - starting with various yaoi and yuri pairings and leading to some absolutely unbelievable couples (I just don't see Ami / Artemis or Makoto / Yuuichiro happening); and still no one seems to get bashed more than the Seiya and Usagi community. Is it because it actually was a somewhat believable pairing? Of all the men that fell in love with Usagi throughout the series (apart from Mamoru of course), Seiya gets the most time and shared moments with Usagi, and all without Mamoru ever being there. Is it because Seiya isn't your typical male / female? Is it because it could turn out to be a (gasps) yuri relationship? But then what's with all the other same-gender relationships throughout the Sailor Moon series?

I also hugely despise the comments with which people try to make Seiya and Usagi bad - well, actually it's Seiya that gets the dirt thrown into his face most of the time.

Seiya tried to steal Usagi away from Mamoru!

It's a simple fact that he did not try to do any such thing. Seiya never gets to know Mamoru (until the very last episode when the truth has already been revealed) - he doesn't know what kind of person Mamoru is and therefore can't really know that had Mamoru not been killed he probably would have written and phoned Usagi. But now, put yourself into Seiya's shoes for a moment - there is this girl you like, who has a boyfriend that has gone away to study abroad and doesn't seem to give a single care about this girlfriend he left behind, not once phoning her or dropping her a simple line.

Seiya isn't trying to steal away Usagi in any way - he just doesn't think (or know) that Usagi and Mamoru are in fact meant to be, and rather sees Mamoru as a heartless guy who doesn't care after Usagi the way she deserves to be cared after, and so sees no harm is seeking after the famous Odango Atama.

It's Usagi and Mamoru's destiny to be together! Their love is eternal!

^_^ We Seiya and Usagi fans will actually only use that against you; for is being bound to destiny actually a good thing? Think about that, and try again.

Seiya is a gender-bender! Eww! That's gross!

May I ask you how old you are? Because that is one of the most stupid comments of them all. First, if you really know the Sailor Moon series, you will be aware of the fact, that Seiya was never intended to be such (had it been done Naoko's way, Seiya would have been a girl all the time; it was the animators decision to make the Three Lights into, well, gender-benders), and that the true form and gender of the Three Lights is that of females. Now that we've got that covered, whats wrong with Seiya (also) being a girl? The other main couple of Sailor Moon (Haruka and Michiru), is also a same-gender realtionship. Half of the other non-cannon relationships abound on the net are also same-gender relationships. Frankly said, I just don't see (or get) the problem here. My advice to all the people that actually use that argument; grow up.
